​@@monk3ybu117 I obviously believe this because why the hell would you randomly make it up, but this just makes me have so many questions... I won't throw all of them flying through my brain at you but if you know the answer the most curious ones would be... Why would a company have the clearance to put up these cameras and have access to the license and plate Database with all that personal information? Is this just a regional thing or state wide? Was this waste of money funded from taxes because that just seems like something the people shouldn't have to fund. My logic being working class people paying for cameras designed solely to generate money from themselves with minor traffic infractions, only to later not even use it so having wasted the money that could have gone to anything useful like schools or infrastructure that is actually useful to the driving tax payers. Lastly the company is still sending these fines out to people in hopes people ignorant to the policy pays it? Is that the only source of money the company has for monitoring and maintaining these cameras? Seems like a bad business model and highly unprofitable, I would think a company would have some kind of contract with the state or city considering most fines have to go through local or state courts which I couldn't imagine them being pleased about losing that revenue. I live in a small "city" (I would not even call it a city in modern days, an old rail road city at it's peak was 30k people now has 8k) that has a relatively small police Dept. Up until recently it was mostly older more experienced officers who did very little traffic enforcement unless they spotted you doing something blatantly dumb in front of them or suspected dwi situations late weekend nights. The new young guys they have been bringing in seem to have a hard on for setting little traps but I digress... about 10 years ago they installed a handful of cameras in higher problem areas like walking underpass, on the corner of the biggest district for bars, a few city owned income based housing places, a city owned parking lot down town, one on Main street and 1 at an intersection that is common for traffic accidents. When they were installed they used revenue generated by the fines levied at the City Court and were only allowed to put them up with the condition that they can not be used to issue fines for traffic offenses, can not be pointed at any private property not owned by the city and pretty much only be used as a tool for investigating crimes that happened in those areas. During the peak of the pandemic some of the new rookies got themselves into a pickle with city council, the mayor and the judge when it was discovered they were setting drivers up by parking a patrol out of site a block or so away and then another unit would go to the desk sergeant area and wait for traffic offenses to call in the car to the hidden unit to make a stop on something they couldn't see from where they were parked. They messed up when they pulled over the Mayor and 2 city council members leaving city hall one evening and couldn't explain how the officer could have possibly seen what he claimed when no one had seen him, the court had to throw out and go back and refund a bunch of cases that were found to be in the areas of those cameras.Ended up with 2 rookies getting canned, another 3 senior guys (still newer to the department but knew better) suspended and demoted and the monitor and recording system no longer being in the dispatch/desk sergeant area and locked in a server room behind the chiefs office with him being the only one that has a key to access them after getting a written request from whoever is investigating something. I am always glad when a public office and its officials take their public rights and privacy seriously and do the right thing as whoever has with your guys traffic cams has.
